Today I talk about the interview with Natalie Klein and her father Rudi Klein. They are winegrowers and come from hell! And that is the one, which is in heaven. And not only that. This winery is already in the future of accounting! Let´s go on a journey together:
The name of the village comes from Middle High German. Areas, which were located far outside the village, were called “Helja”. From this place, mentioned today “hell” (in german “Hölle”, near Illmitz in Austria, comes the “Wine from Hell”. The vineyards are located on a wonderful cycle path, and the “Buschenschank”, which is a wine shop, where you can also sit together with friends, drinking and eating, is surrounded by the Neusiedler See, National Park, Seewinkel.
In addition to wine, juices and jams, such as apple juice, quince juice, grape juice and apricot jams, are also produced. Of course, depending on the result of the harvest, because everything comes from self-cultivation!

Because here I have outstanding entrepreneurs in front of me, who have organized themselves so well, that they can really concentrate on their core business!
The processes in the accounting department are quickly discussed: The data of the cash register and the cellar book are continuously synchronized, and then there is the webshop.
It is clearly defined what Rudi is responsible for and for what Natalie is responsible for. For example, she runs into the cellar to pack the wine and ship it via the “parndorf wine logistics company”.
Working with the tax advisor runs smoothly and efficiently. Prices are calculated according to a proven pattern and then we talk about the core business: The production of quality wine!
And for that, we talk about the software from ODIPlan. This program records everything from the areas of soil protection, plant protection and fertilization. It can also be used to determine economic key figures (i.e. contribution, direct costs).
The Klein family team consists of Natalie and Rudi, with whom I conduct the interview. And Vanessa and Michelle, also daughters of Rudi. And his wife Regina and his parents, Anna and Rudi. That is the complete team of this family business in “Hölle”, the “hell”, near Illmitz in Austria.
This team pick twice a year at night, earthworms and rhomb tensioner out of the vines: And they have to be very quiet when doing this. Because as soon as this worms hear something, they fall motionless to the ground. The collected earthworms are brought before the court consisting of hens: The Henscourt! – Natural pest control with animal support.
“We feed the natural enemies,” says Rudi: – Pests and insects are destroyed in this way or stay away. And in hell (Hölle), cow dung and horse dung come to the ground.
I am particularly looking forward to the “Buschenschank”: Because it is located on the bike path. They have water ready, for thirsty cyclists: For free! “In summer It burns down on the cycle path. This can mean up to 60 or 70 degrees in addition to the water surfaces. It is clear to us, that we provide water free of charge,” says Rudi.
This special hospitality is reflected in returning guests and their big joy at a reunion. Some visitors from Switzerland seem to have fixed hell (Hölle) even as a regular meeting place. “It sometimes seems to me that they meet here, not in Switzerland,” Rudi says. Of course, the family Klein is happy about their regular customers: By collecting data of the shipped wine bottles in the cellar book, the statistics therefore also speak for the “wine from hell”.
I’m already looking forward to it. Because then I will taste the wine and the juice and know how the hell, which is in heaven, feels on my skin. Which birds and animals I will hear and how many cyclists will pass by us?
When I met Natalie the first time, she said: “I’m Natalie Klein and I’m from hell.” She smiled and bright warm energy flows from her eyes towards me. “How can hell be so friendly?”, I thought.

At the end of the interview, I asked, what they will do today. And they told me: “We go to the city Eisenstadt, bringing three bottles of wine to the testing station. In order to obtain the official mark for Austrian quality wine for this production.”
